Frequently asked questions:
Do you stock parts? We stock a few of the most commonly needed parts such as spark plugs, brake pads, batteries, cables and levers. However, in order to keep our prices low we cannot invest thousands of dollars to stock parts that may sit on a shelf for years. Are parts available? The vehicles we normally stock are from established importers. There is always a chance that an importer may go bankrupt or decide to retire, this has never happened so far, but you never know when a fire or family emergency could cause a business to call it quits. Our importers carry the parts so that we can focus on sales and service, not worrying about parts inventory. So far, we have had very little trouble obtaining parts, occasionally, there may be a backorder and a delay of a week or two, this is not common though. What if parts are not available? Most of the products we sell have copies of other engines and designs from major manufacturers. For example, a Honda clutch may work in some models as well as Honda electrical components. Some have brake pads that will interchange with Suzuki parts. There are also other importers that sell the same model but with a different name, a search for "chinese atv parts" will usually turn up more than enough sources for parts should they not be available from our suppliers. We will always go the extra mile for our customers, we have even removed new parts from atv's off of our floor so that a customer can get their quad going again. How many other dealers would tear apart a brand new machine just to fix up a customer with a $5 part? Not many we suppose. We cannot do this for every single customer, but if a part has been unavailable for a long time we will do our best to accommodate you. Another dealer told me that parts are really expensive, are they? A complete engine for most 50cc and 70cc bikes and quads are around $300. Entire clutch units are around $50. An example of parts for the twin cylinder 250 quad: piston and rings are under $50, Front fenders are $80, rear fenders are $80. 150 Sport scooter parts: Complete engine and transmission for around $580, drive belt is $25, Complete carburetor for under $50. So if another dealer tells you that parts are expensive, ask for some prices for their replacement parts. Do you service what you sell? We can work on your bike, atv or scooter. We are self taught and do not have a machine shop. 9 out of 10 times we have no problem diagnosing and repairing what we sell. Occasionally there may be something such as a transmission problem that requires the entire engine to be removed and stripped down to the innards, we are not equipped to do this kind of work. If a problem arises that we are not able to fix, we will work with you to come up with the most cost effective way to get your vehicle fixed. As stated above, most of these engines and electrical components are copies of other designs, finding an independent repair shop should not be too difficult if it comes to that. How long have you been in business? Brush Valley Tire has been in business for over 20 years. We have been selling ATV's, Scooters, Bikes ect... for about 5 years. We are here to stay, unlike some of the fly by nighters that are there to take your cash and then disappear like Houdini. How does my warranty work? You must register your product with the manufacturer, this can be done usually by mail or the net. If you have a problem with your product, call us and we will advise you as to what steps you need to take. Your replacement parts will come from the manufacturer, we can diagnose your problem and then you can call for the replacement parts. This is the fastest way to get your vehicle fixed. Dropping off your vehicle and calling every two days asking if it done will not help anyone. All that does is frustrates you and our employees both. We are a small business that tries our best to get your stuff fixed in the quickest time possible. When we diagnose the problem and have you call for the parts, this is the best way. What about when my warranty expires? We will still be here after your warranty expires. Our normal labor rate is $30 an hour. We always work with you if you bought your Wildfire or Avanti from us. Who makes the bike? Most all of our products originate in China. There are hundreds of factories in China that make the various parts for our products. Some of the major ones such as Lifan and Long Cin also produce engines for some of the "name" brand companies. Sometimes we may have an occasional item made in South Korea or Japan. Companies such as Yamaha, Suzuki, Vespa and others have invested money into Chinese manufacturing companies. Some of their parts are being made in China, and some of the Chinese bikes have parts such as carbs and electrical components made in Japan. Suzuki uses a South Korean v-twin in a few of their bikes. "I don't need a receipt, what kind of discount can I get?" We hear this all the time, and the answer is always the same, no discount is given because everyone pays sales tax. The only exceptions are dealers, farmers, or non-profits with the proper tax id. If this is a problem, try going to Wal-Mart and telling them you don't want to pay tax. All our prices reflect a cash discount, if paying with a credit card, we may have to add 2%. The credit card companies charge all businesses a fee for accepting your card, we are a small business and cannot afford to lose 2% on every purchase.
General questions about ATV and Motorcycle laws
Does my bike need to be registered? There are two forms of ATV registration in PA: Registration
Limited registration
Pennsylvania registration is NOT required for:
Titling is NOT required for:
Dirt bikes are titled through PennDot. All street legal bikes may either be purchased and titled to be registered later, or licensed at the time of purchase with the proper insurance. Unless you are a licensed dealer, a farmer, have tax exempt status for non-profit, or are from out of state, sales tax will be collected. I heard of a guy that got his ATV registered for the street, how do you do this? You can't, and if this guy exists, he lied on a state form in order to get a title for on the street or is attempting to claim that his DCNR plate allows him to ride on the road. Click here for the states position on registering an ATV for highway use, read the forth paragraph. Do I need insurance for my ATV? If you are using your ATV solely on land owned or leased by you, you are not required to get liability insurance. All other riders must carry liability insurance. Proof of that insurance must be carried with you when you ride. There are no minimum requirements or coverage standards established by DCNR or the Snowmobile/ATV Law for the liability insurance. Click here to go to the DCNR website for more information. What are the age limits for Quads? From the DCNR website: No one under 8 years of age shall operate an ATV on any state owned property. No person from age 8 to their 16th birthday shall operate an ATV except on lands of his parent or guardian, unless he or she has completed a prescribed ATV safety training course and received an safety training certificate. Age 8 and 9 year old operators are restricted to an engine size of 70cc or less. Call the DCNR Bureau of Forestry for information on a rider safety course: (717) 783-7941 Do I need a helmet? It is illegal in the state of Pennsylvania to operate an ATV without a helmet. A person licensed to operate a motorcycle in PA is not required to wear a helmet if certain requirements are met, this applies only to street legal motorcycles with the proper licensing. Do I need a motorcycle license for a scooter? Yes and no, a scooter that is 50cc or larger requires a motorcycle operators license, a scooter under 50cc only requires a class C regular operator license. Scooters still need to have a license plate, registration, insurance and annual safety inspection. You can find more information here: http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/licensing_master/index.shtml
